Dorothy Johnson, 101

Dorothy Marie Johnson, 101, Stanton, formerly Emerson, passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, at Accura Healthcare of Stanton.
Dorothy was born Nov. 25, 1921, in Stanton, the daughter of Clarence Victor and Doris Marie (Herron) Magneson.  She grew up in the Wallin area, attending country school and belonging to the Wallin Church.  She attended high school in Stanton and Coburg, graduating from Coburg High School in 1940.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Quentin “Swede” Johnson on Jan. 31, 1942, in Manhattan, Kan.  She cared for infant son, David, at home in Emerson while Quentin served overseas from 1943 until the end of World War II in 1945.  Dorothy cherished her family and faithfully attended her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.  She, along with Swede, attended many Nishna Valley and Stanton athletic events over the years.
Dorothy and Quentin lived all of their 72 years of marriage in Emerson, and the couple devoted their lives to serving the community.  Dorothy served meals to shut-ins, volunteered at church, and worked at the local telephone office and Red Oak True Value Hardware store.    She was a member of the Emerson United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Emerson Senior Center, Emerson Community Club, Emerson Women’s Club, and Order of Eastern Star.
Dorothy moved to Stanton in 2018.  She enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, gardening, church activities, and playing cards with her weekly Emerson card group.  In her later years, her television watching consisted mostly of football and basketball games.
