Dorothy Elarton, 90

Dorothy E. Elarton, 90, Red Oak, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, in Red Oak.
Dorothy Evelyn Elarton, the daughter of Alfred and Pearl (Kingsbury) Davisson, was born Nov. 17, 1932, at Wenatchee, Wash. Dorothy was raised in the Omak, Wash., area and graduated from Omak High School in 1950. She enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Nov. 15, 1951, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. On Nov. 1, 1954, she was honorably discharged from her service.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Duane Elarton on Oct. 6, 1956, in Omak, Wash. Duane and Dorothy lived in San Francisco, Calif.; Centerville; Omak, Wash.; Grinnell; and Waukee before settling in Red Oak in 1969. After moving to Red Oak, Dorothy worked many years for the Red Oak Community School District. She worked in the high school library and at multiple elementary schools before retiring.
Dorothy was a huge fan of tennis and enjoyed watching it on TV and in person. She and Duane even went to the US Open in New York to watch some of her favorite players. Dorothy liked cooking, sewing, quilting and was talented in painting and ceramics. She dedicated more than 10 years to the Montgomery County Veterans Affairs board, serving as secretary and treasurer. After Dorothy and Duane retired, they spent much of their time travelling the United States as well as enjoying trips to Europe and Australia. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Red Oak.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane on June 14, 2019; and two sisters, Audrey Johnston and Helen Garinger.
Dorothy is survived by three children: Larry (Amy) Elarton of Savannah, Ga.; Pam Elarton of Thorton, Colo.; and Randall Elarton of Red Oak; five grandchildren, Jake Elarton, Sydney (Jim) Jones, Andrea Elarton, Margo Elarton and Olivia Elarton; two great-grandchildren, Owen Rhamy and Andy Jones; sister, Mildred Leslie of Chesaw, Wash.; and brother, Dale Davisson of Hillsboro, Ore.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Red Oak. Burial with Military Rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.
A memorial is being established in Dorothy’s name.
