David Bass, 72

David Oral “Dave” Bass, 72, Red Oak, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at his home after an extended illness.
Dave was born March 28, 1952, in Red Oak, the son of George and Ruby (Durham) Bass. He was raised north of Emerson on the family farm. Dave attended Emerson School for first and second grade, Nishna Valley School at Henderson for third through sixth grade, and Nishna Valley School at Hastings for seventh through twelfth grade, graduating in 1970.
His first job was at Greenwood Lumber Company and helping on the family farm milking, crop work, baling hay, and was always involved in 4-H. He was a truck driver at Standard Chemical in Malvern, owned and operated Farmers Feed Service in Carson, drove many miles in a feed truck, and most recently worked for Balance4ward in Nodaway.
Dave was united in marriage to Betty Jean Renander on March 27, 1976, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton. They made their home in Red Oak. Over the years, Dave enjoyed riding motorcycles, bowling, golfing, and softball. He was a member of the Red Oak Country Club and Red Oak Eagles Aerie #2715, where he was Past President and Trustee. Dave also was a referee for many years involved in many sports and all age groups.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Stanley Bass and Jim Bass; father-in-law, Carol Renander; and mother-in-law, Ilah Jean Renander.
Survivors include wife, Betty Bass of Red Oak; son, Kent Bass and Heather Pengilly of St. Peter, Minn.; daughter, Amy Bauer and husband Anthony of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Brayden and Harper Bass and Claire Bauer; brothers, Jon Bass of Bellevue, Neb., and Ken Bass and wife Vanessa of Palm Harbor, Fla.; sister, Kathy Brandt of Cherokee; uncle, Ivan Durham and wife Jan of Hershey, Neb.; brother-in-law, Clayton Renander and wife Jan of Red Oak; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Williams and husband Mike of Red Oak and Mary Bolton and husband Monty of Emerson; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. Burial will be in the Emerson Cemetery at Emerson. Visitation with the family will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
