Charles "Chuck" Eklof, 89

Charles “Chuck” Eklof, 89, Stanton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, at Accura Healthcare of Stanton, Stanton.
Charles “Chuck” Albert Eklof, the son of Russell and Alva Johnson Eklof, was born Nov. 4, 1933, on a farm northeast of Stanton. Charles (Chuck) attended Maplehurst country school. The family later moved to Stanton, where he completed elementary and secondary school at Stanton Community School, graduating in 1951. He participated in sports and especially enjoyed basketball. Chuck joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served almost four years, getting out two weeks early to go to college. He attended Wichita State University and earned a BA in Education degree. On June 4, 1961, Chuck was united in marriage to Patricia Elder. David was their only child.
Chuck taught high school English for 32 years and served as librarian at the Stanton and South Page schools. He retired in 1995. Chuck taught one year in East Union Community Schools in Afton, then returned to Stanton to teach for 18 years, and then finished his teaching career at the South Page Community School. Each summer he was busy painting houses, the ideal summer job for a male teacher.
Chuck was a lifelong member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church. He served on Mamrelund’s church board several times, serving a term as vice president, and was active when the elevator was installed. He spent a lot of time landscaping around the church and working on various landscaping projects around Stanton. He was in charge of Mamrelund’s food pantry for 11 years. He was also the director of the Stanton Senior Center for a year and a half.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Pat on Dec. 29, 2020; son, David, in 1978; his parents; and brother, Willis Dean.
Chuck is survived by his sister, Ardythe Salerno; a niece; two nephews and their families; other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, Dec. 19, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton. Inurnment and military rites will take place prior to the service at Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to your local church, school or organization in Chuck’s name.
