Betty Lantz, 100
Betty Jean (Pelzer) Lantz was born Jan. 30, 1925, to James and Minerva (Frank) Pelzer. After graduating from Griswold High School, she was a rural schoolteacher for several years. On April 5, 1947, she was united in marriage to Howard Lantz. They lived in the same farmhouse from 1947 to 1992 when they moved to Red Oak and then in 2012, they moved to Des Moines.
Betty was a homemaker, a teacher, an auction clerk and a member of several clubs. She was a member of Faith Lutheran church in Griswold and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Howard; one daughter, Cheryl; brother, Eldon and wife Mary; brother, Donald and wife Carolyn; and sister, Janet and husband Ron Lehman.
Betty passed away in her sleep on Monday, April 7, 2025.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Carolyn Lantz, Lindi (Steve) Roe, and Patricia Lantz; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, Dennis and wife Jane; sister-in-law, Lou Bailey; many nieces and nephews and treasured friends.
A special thank you to nephew, Dwain and wife Cindy and niece, Becky, for being able to visit Mom frequently and niece, Donut, who ran errands for Mom in Red Oak.
In lieu of flowers or memorials please take a friend out to lunch—Betty’s favorite thing to do.

To everyone who knew and loved our mom, thank you for the comments and stories about how beautiful she was both outside and in. How hardworking, stylish, charismatic, funny and just a little (?) bit ornery she was. She (and Dad) quietly supported, encouraged and were sounding boards to her family and friends.
Anytime you visited, as you left Mom would tell you “Thank you, I appreciate all you do for me, love you”.
Mom/Betty—thank you for all you did for us, we appreciated you, love you right back!
A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel. Cards, notes or letters may be sent to Lindi Roe at 6380 Panorama Drive, Panora, Iowa 50216.
