By the Numbers: Where things stand in 1A

We're past the halfway point in the 2011 football season. With four games left in the season, the push to make the state playoffs is well under way.

In 1A, Griswold is currently on the outside looking in, in District 8. The Tigers are fifth with a 1-2 district record (3-2 overall).

The team they would likely need to catch is Tri-Center (4-1, 2-1), who currently sits fourth in the district on account of the point difference average tiebreaker.

The Trojans beat Griswold 26-20 on Sept. 9. The have three of their final four games at home, including this Friday night against Logan-Magnolia (5-0, 3-0), who are No. 6 in the latest Radio Iowa poll.

Griswold has two home and two road games remaining, including this Friday against St. Albert (5-0, 3-0), one of the top teams in 1A.

The Tigers still have to contend with Audubon, Logan-Magnolia and Clarinda Academy. Meanwhile, Tri-Center has Clarinda Academy, Treynor and Underwood, following Logan-Magnolia.

With Logan-Magnolia and St. Albert occupying the top two spots in the district, Treynor (3-2, 2-1) is currently third. The Cardinals head down to Clarinda to face Clarinda Academy this Friday. Treynor picked up the 42-19 win over Griswold, last Friday.

Audubon is tied with Griswold for fifth with a 1-2 record, however the Tigers have the edge in the point difference average, which allows them to hold sole possession of fifth place.

Underwood and Clarinda Academy are both in search of their first district wins.

Things could get interesting as we enter the final month of the regular season.
