By the Numbers: 8-Man: Where we stand after week 5

We're more than halfway through with the 2011 football season. There's four games left and teams are looking to position themselves for the postseason.

In 8-Man District 8,  Fremont-Mills and East Mills remain tied for first place in the standings. Both teams are 5-0, but the Knights have one more win in the District than the Wolverines.

Both teams have an opportunity to be undefeated heading into their Oct. 21 game in Malvern.

East Mills will Villisca (this Friday), Nishnabotna (Oct. 7) and at Essex (Oct. 14), before they face Fremont-Mills.

The Knights meanwhile contend with Stanton on Friday and are at Sidney Oct. 7. Fremont-Mills has a bye for Oct. 14.

Stanton currently sits in third in the District 8 standings with a 2-1 record. They have district wins over Essex and Nishnabotna, but lost to East Mills.

The Vikings face Fremont-Mills in Tabor this Friday night. Their remaining schedule will be Villisca (Oct. 7), Sidney (Oct. 14) and Heartland Christian (Oct. 21).

Sidney currently sits fourth in the district with a 1-1 record (4-1 overall). Essex at 1-2 is a game behind the Cowboys. The two teams have an opportunity to face each other this Friday night in Essex.

Essex needs a win over Sidney to help their positioning in the District. Sidney currently has a better overall record, as well as a better point differential average.

The Trojans have East Greene, East Mills and Nishnabotna left on their schedule.

Villisca and Nishnabotna remain winless in the district. The Blue Jays have East Mills, Stanton, Nishnabotna and Sidney left on the schedule.

Nishnabotna has Coon Rapids-Bayard, East Mills, Villisca and Essex left to contend with.

We'll have previews of Friday night's games later on this week on the Red Oak Express' website.
