Nov. 11 community briefs

SHENANDOAH — Several Red Oak Rotarians attended the Shenandoah Rotary Club meeting Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Elks Club in Shenandoah.
The meeting was a special program as Fred Wilson, former Shenandoah teacher and current customer service manager at Von Mauer in Omaha, Neb., was the keynote speaker.
Wilson was a victim in the Dec. 5, 2007, Von Mauer - Westroad Mall shooting.
He was shot in the right arm.
Wilson shared his program “Forgiveness and Fullness of Life” with more than 70 people.
The Red Oak Rotary Club meets Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. at the Pizza Ranch.
Senior Center sets evening meal
REDee^OAK — The Red Oak Senior Center will host its monthly evening meal on Thursday, Nov. 20.
Organizers said the meal is a week early due to Thanksgiving.
The meal will be a turkey dinner and the Happy Warblers will provide entertainment.
Serving begins at 5:30 p.m. To reserve a seat, call Janet Osheim at 712-623-3497 before Nov. 19.
Daffodil Days fundraiser set
RED OAK — The American Cancer Society has announced details for its annual spring Daffodil Days fundraiser.
Daffodils can be ordered for the upcoming fundraiser through Feb. 11, 2009, Cancer Society officials said. The flowers will be available for pickup the week of March 9, 2009.
The prices this year are $10 for flowers, $25 for flowers and a teddy bear, $75 for the Sunshine Bouquet, $12 for a vase and $15 for potted bulbs known as Dainty Daffodils.

Group plans soup luncheon
EMERSONee^— The Henderson Hornets-Ambitious Andies 4-H Club is sponsoring a Soup Luncheon on Sunday, Nov. 16 at the Emerson Community Building.
Chili and potato soup will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is a free-will donation.
In other club news, members organized a collection drive of canned goods and paper products for Emerson Post Master Linda Howard and her family after the loss of their home due to a fire.
Club members Brooke Faxon, Lindsey Huntsman and Molly Bolton recently presented her with the donated items.
Birthday
celebrated at Y
REDee^OAK — The Montgomery County Family YMCA celebrated its 8th birthday the week of October 20-26.
The week included festivities and specials such as performances by the Southwest Iowa Cheerleaders, The Red Oak Varsity Cheerleaders and the ROAR Dance Team.
The Red Oak Chamber of Commerce also held its weekly coffee at the fitness center.
Free fitness and exercise classes were also offered.
Parent talk set on homework
RED OAK — Parents having difficulty motivating their children to complete homework are eligible to participate in the upcoming “Homework: A Parent’s Survival Guide” workshop.
The program will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in the auditorium of Red Oak Middle School, 308-A Corning St.
The free program is being offered by Huntington Learning Center and will focus on providing information on how to tackle common homework problems.
