Nonprofit organizations receive more than $100,000 in grant money
Thirteen nonprofit organizations were awarded grant money for projects within their agencies.
The grants, totaling $103,866, were awarded by the Montgomery County Community Foundation in partnership with the Red Oak Heritage Foundation. There is an application process every fall and spring for nonprofits to request grant money.
Red Oak Public Library was awarded $3,465 to purchase six laptops for online classes and patron use. The City of Stanton received $4,500 for a video surveillance system for the Viking Center. The City of Villisca received $10,000 for an electronic information sign. The Elliott volunteer fire department was awarded $2,430 to replace self-contained breathing apparatus facemasks.
Grant Community Preservationists received $3,500 for phase III of restoration of the Grant Masonic Lodge. The Montgomery County Agricultural Society was awarded $8,000 to construct handicap accessible approaches. The Montgomery County YMCA received $27,000 for new lighting in the gym, indoor pool and indoor tennis court. Nishna Productions was given $2,000 for computer equipment.
The Montgomery County History Center received $6,000 to help restore the Sciola Church. The Red Oak Grand Theatre received $18,000 for concession and display areas. The Stanton Historical Society was given $3,000 to clean and repaint the water tower. The Stanton Child Resource Center received $7,500 for a tornado and safe room shelter. The City of Villisca and Villisca Public Library was awarded $8,471 for the restoration and replacement of windows.
According to a press release, “all grantees met the criteria as Montgomery County nonprofit agencies or organizations with charitable missions in the areas of civic, cultural, health, education and social services. Only organizations providing services in Montgomery County were eligible.”
Montgomery County agency representatives received their checks on April 22.
“Our Advisory Board is pleased to direct $103,866.00 in grants to these important community efforts in Montgomery County,” Dennis Bloom, Chair of the Montgomery County Community Foundation, said. “The Montgomery County Community Foundation is one of nine counties that are collectively known as the Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa and meets or exceeds the Standards for Community Foundations as established by the Council on Foundations in Washington, DC.”
The Montgomery County Community Foundation works with individuals, families, businesses and organizations to create permanent funds that address the changing, vital community needs and interests.
