Tigers nip Rams in tennis

Red Oak won the first four singles matches then clinched the 5-4 dual victory over Glenwood with Ana Torres and Emma Wingert’s No. 2 doubles victory Thursday in Red Oak.
The Tigers’ Torres, Anna Butz, Caitlin Britten and Wingert gave the Tigers the momentum with their singles wins.
“One of the biggest takeaways from the day was the way our girls continued to compete when matches became difficult,” said Red Oak coach Luis MacDonald. “Ana Torres, Anna Butz, and Caitlin Britten all battled through tough matches and showed a lot of composure in important moments.”
The Rams battled back to trim the lead to 4-3 with Maddie Severn and Ella Farnsworth’s wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, and then Ady Thiesen and Payton Stewart’s No. 1 doubles win over Anna Butz and Britten.
The match ended on Torres and Wingert’s 8-1 win over Sophie Stroud and Kati Bomer in the second doubles match.
“I was proud of our effort to stay in the fight down to the last match,” said Glenwood coach Grant Stivers.
