City, county offices remain open, but closed to public

As of Tuesday, March 17, all Montgomery County offices were closed to the public until further notice. However, they will remain open for phone calls, email business and by appointment only.

“This decision did not come lightly and we are making every effort to lead by example in an effort to combat the COVID-19 virus and public health concerns,” said Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Brian Hamman. “The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors recommend suspending all public gatherings of 10 people or more at this time. The decision to keep all Montgomery County offices closed will be evaluated on a daily basis, and our decisions will be based on current public health trends as well as guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health and Center for Disease Control (CDC).”

Some county services can be accessed online, such as drivers license functions, tax payments, and fine payments. Citizens are strongly encouraged to utilize these avenues rather than public exposure whenever possible. Please contact the corresponding office by phone with any questions or concerns.

For questions, concerns or to file papers for the June 2 Primary Election and/or Nov. 3 General Election, please call the Auditor’s office at 623-5127. The Auditor’s office will provide direction to receive paperwork for the March 20 and March 25 deadline. One may also download an absentee request form from the Montgomery County website, montgomerycountyiowa.com or from the Iowa Secretary of State website, sos.iowa.gov.

Red Oak City Hall closed its doors to the public Wednesday, March 18.

“As we work together in response to the Governor’s attempt in trying to make everyone safe through this COVID-19 virus time, we feel it is best to limit public access to city hall. We are asking residents to please place their payment or correspondence in the city hall drop box by front door, or they may also make their water bill payment online with debit or credit card at city.redoakiowa.com This will take them to our free pay on line city website,” Red Oak City Administrator Brad Wright said.

“We will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis but this procedure will be in effect until further notice,” commented Wright.

The Red Oak Public Library remains closed to the public. Residents are still able to pick up library materials via phone contact and appointment, by calling 623-6516

The Red Oak Municipal Airport lobby has also been closed off to all non-essential use, limiting that to only pilots who have an absolute need to be in the building.
