City OK’s hotel study

The Red Oak City Council is moving forward with a feasibility study for a potential new business in Red Oak’s downtown. 

Red Oak Mayor Bill Billings said a hotel feasibility study was being proposed on city-owned vacant lots on the northwest corner of the Red Oak Square. The study was proposed with the participation of the Red Oak Chamber and Industry Association, which will contribute $2,000 from local option sales tax funds. 

The study was passed on a 3-2 vote, with councilmen Roger Waggener and Bill Hauffle voting no. 

The council also met with Daric O’Neal, representing the Tag-A-Longs group. O’Neal proposed a concept plan for a digital marquee sign in Legion Park which would advertise school activities. The Montgomery County Fair Board and the Montgomery County YMCA have also been approached to participate in the signage. 

Billings advised O’Neal he would also like to see the ROCIA approached about the project to have a sign advertising both school and community events. 

The council moved to show their support of a development of the plan for signage at Legion Park. The motion passed unanimously.
