UPDATED: Friday Football: Red Oak hosts Clarinda for Homecoming
UPDATE: A plan is in place for the Red Oak Homecoming Game Friday night, should severe weather be an issue, according to an e-mail from Red Oak AD Jeff Spotts.
Red Oak High School will provide three buses at the stadium to transport the team, cheerleaders, band and students dropped off by their parents, which will take them to the high school building for shelter.
Students that don't have a ride will be directed to the school bus. Students in the middle school seating at the south end of the field will also be directed to the school bus in the parking lot and driven to Red Oak High School.
If delayed, there will need to be 30 minutes of clear weather before restarting. Under the plan, a meeting would take place with both AD's, as well as officials to determine whether to wait out the conditions or re-schedule the contest.
Should the game continue, those transported in the buses will return to the field. If the game is rescheduled, parents will need to pick up their children from the high school building.
Clarinda fans can also use the high school as a shelter, should weather become an issue.
School officials will be in contact with KCSI Radio, who will be broadcasting the Red Oak game, with any game or weather updates.
The area is under a hazardous weather outlook. Thunderstorms are possible for Friday afternoon and evening, mainly before 10 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with hail and damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
As of early Friday afternoon, the game is on as scheduled, which starts at 7 p.m.
It’s homecoming in Red Oak as the Tigers try for two in a row when they play Clarinda Friday night.
Red Oak got to 2-1 in the district thanks to their 34-0 win last week at Clarinda Academy. The Cardinals meanwhile are 2-0 after scoring a big win last week over OA-BCIG.
As of now, Clarinda and Red Oak are second and third in the District 8 standings. A big win for Red Oak would give them that second place spot behind Kuemper Catholic.
Clarinda enters Friday night having won two in a row, after losing their first three games to start the season.
The running game will be key for Red Oak. They enter Friday night as the top rushing team in the district, 1,110 yards this season. They share the district lead with Kuemper Catholic, each having 13.
Red Oak defeated Clarinda last season 35-14.
Shenandoah at Kuemper Catholic
Kuemper Catholic looks to remain undefeated when they host the Shenandoah Mustangs.
The Knights scored their third shutout win this season when they defeated Greene County 32-0, last week.
The Mustangs have lost two in a row, including last week on the road versus Treynor.
Shenandoah enters Friday’s game having defeated Kuemper Catholic once. The one time it happened took place in 2004 when they won 31-13.
Kuemper Catholic won last season’s meeting 55-0.
OA-BCIG at Clarinda Academy
OA-BCIG will try to get back on track this week against a winless Clarinda Academy team.
OA-BCIG is now 1-2 in the district after the 34-27 loss to Clarinda last week. Clarinda Academy was shutout for the third time this season with the loss to Red Oak last week.
OA-BCIG scored the 63-20 win over Clarinda Academy last season.
Roland-Story at Greene County
This is the lone non-district game for the week.
Greene County is coming off a 32-0 loss to Kuemper Catholic, last week. They’ve lost three of four games to start the season.
Roland-Story meanwhile has a two game winning streak. Their most recent win came last week versus East Marshall, 42-20. The other win came against South Hardin.
Last season, Greene County defeated Roland-Story 20-6.
