UPDATED: Red Oak boys team falls in state semis to St. Edmond

Update: The Red Oak boys finished fourth at team state after losing Tuesday afternoon in the third place match to Maharshi, Fairfield, 5-0.

Maharshi won all of its matches in singles.

Jordan Nelson lost 6-2 and 6-2 to Raphael Gelfand. Geoff Sellers lost 6-4 and 6-1 to Solaris Nite. Austin Streicher lost to Surya Sawhney 6-0 and 6-0. Tanner Johnson fell to Chandre Morales 6-0 and 6-0. Hayden Berry lost to Avery Mulleneux 6-2 and 6-1.

Pete Walker was in a battle with Sam Stickels, but that match wasn't completed.

St. Edmond won the state title when they defeated Dubuque-Wahlert 5-2.

DES MOINES — The Red Oak boys tennis team lost their semifinal match against St. Edmond (Fort Dodge) Tuesday morning 5-0.

Red Oak was scheduled to compete in the third place match.

Results weren’t available as of press time, but an update will be posted on the Red Oak Express website.

St. Edmond won all five matches in the singles with one singles match still on the court at the time.

Pete Walker once again went three sets with Aaron Chalstrom in a individual semifinal rematch from Saturday.

Walker won the first set 7-6, but then lost 6-1 and 6-1.

Jordan Nelson also went three sets in his match with John Eide.

Nelson won the first set 7-5, but lost the next two 6-2 and 6-2.

Austin Streicher lost to Jimmy Averill 6-0 and 6-1, while Tanner Johnson lost to Zach Gailey 6-4 and 7-6. Hayden Berry lost to Pat Hancock 6-0 and 6-0.

Geoff Sellers was still on the court competing when St. Edmond clinched the win.

The Tigers advanced to the state semifinals in team tennis for the first time since 2007.

Red Oak won its lone state team tennis title in 2003.
