Red Oak homes damaged in fires

RED OAK — Fires over the Christmas weekend caused damage to two homes in Red Oak.

The first fire occurred on Friday morning and destroyed a kitchen in a residential home in Red Oak.

The second fire took place Tuesday afternoon at the home of James Cisar, located at 207 4th Ave.

Firefighters from Stanton and Elliott joined Red Oak firefighters in extinguishing the flames, as well as salvaging what was left inside the house.

A clothes dryer is what started the fire, according to interim Fire Chief Kevin Walford. Cisar wasn’t home at the time, but four of his dogs were killed in the fire, according to Walford.

There was extensive damage in the utility room, an adjacent bathroom and a storage room. The damage was also extended to the living room.

The Red Oak Fire Department was alerted to the first fire that occurred at 1409 Eastern Avenue, shortly before 11 a.m. Friday.

Red Oak’s Fire Department sent seven trucks and also had personnel come in from Elliott and Stanton.

The fire reportedly started in the stove in a kitchen.

The main fire damage was in the kitchen, with smoke damage all around the house.

No one was home at the time of Friday’s fire. However, a cat and dog were killed in the house fire.
