Corner Conference Tourney Begins

ESSEX -- The Stanton Viqueens won their quarterfinal game Monday night in a 92-21 blowout win over East Mills at the Essex High School gym.

Stanton scored at least 20 points in all four quarters, including 29 in the first.

Four Viqueen players finished the game with double-figure scoring.

Kadie Subbert led the charge with 18 points on 5-of-12 shooting and was 2-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc.

Rachel Sorensen scored 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting for the Viqueens.

Shelby Wagg recorded 12 points for the Viqueens and Ragen Anderson finished with 10.

Wagg was also the Viqueens leading rebounder with six rebounds.

Molly Haley came close to reaching the 10 point mark, but finished with nine.

Stanton will now focus their attention on Fremont-Mills, who they will play in the semifinals Wednesday.

The game will be played in Stanton at 7:30. Fremont-Mills reached the semis with a 59-40 win against Essex Monday.

The Knights defense didn’t give up more than 13 points in any quarter, forcing them to score 20 in each half.

Prior to their quarterfinal game, the Viqueens defeated Clarinda Academy 97-23, in Stanton Friday.

Stanton exploded with 35 points in the first quarter and never looked back.

The Subberts combined to score 43 of Stanton’s 98 points.

Kadie Subbert finished the night as the Viqueens leading scorer, with 23 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the three-point-arc.

Carmen Subbert added 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting and even hit two three-pointers.

Allen and Sorenson are the only other Viqueens to record double-figure points, each scoring 12 points.

The Viqueens grabbed 45 rebounds in the game, with Ragen Anderson responsible for seven of them.

Stanton’s defense also stole the ball from Clarinda Academy 26 times.

Stanton was scheduled to play Nishnabotna on Jan. 11, but the game was postponed, due to last weekend’s storm.

No make up date has been announced.
