Brown opens shadowbox franchise on Internet

HENDERSON — A local woman has joined Products for Good as a sales representative marketing shadow boxes.
Susan Brown, 45, of Henderson started her Internet franchise selling shadow boxes containing mint-condition Iraqi coins surrounded by U.S. military memorabilia last month.
“It’s a way I can give back for all the things they (U.S. service members) have done for us,” she said.
According to Brown, Products for Good donates a percentage of sales revenues to charities assisting service members and their families.
“Products for Good hopes to raise $20 million for families of fallen and wounded,” she said.
Brown, formerly of Red Oak, said the shadow boxes are numbered and come with a certificate of authenticity.
The coins were confiscated in 2003 during a U.S. military raid of a former Sadam Hussein cache, she said. The uncirculated coins were confiscated, and ultimately sold to Products for Good.
Initial proceeds helped restore an orphanage in Basra, Iraq, she said.
“You won’t have access to these coins anywhere else,” she said.
The shadow boxes are assembled by Cleveland Vocational Industries, which employees handicapped individuals, she said. They sell for between $49.99 and $149.99 each through her Brown’s Web site www.productsforgood.com/letfreedomring.
