Newton selects Messinger as superintendent

Red Oak Superintendent Tom Messinger has made a verbal commitment to the Newton School District to be its new superintendent for the upcoming 2020-21 school year.

Messinger and two other candidates interviewed for the position during a day-long session last Thursday. The board met in closed session following the interviews to discuss making an offer to their top candidate.

Messinger added he is uncertain when Newton board members will be approving the contract.
