ROFD tackles fire at Bunge

On Monday, March 21, at around 11 a.m., the Red Oak Fire Department was dispatched to 2049 Fernwood Ave., the Bunge Corporation, for a fire in the external dryer.

The first fire engine arrived at 11:04 a.m. and reported fire coming out of the northeast stack, as well as, a field fire directly north of the facility. Evacuation proceedings had taken place with all facility employees being accounted for by Bunge Safety personnel.

Firefighters set-up aerial operations to extinguish the outside dryer stack fire, as well as, combatted the field fire – all completed simultaneously. Firefighters were able to confirm through maintenance staff that the fire was contained to the exterior of the facility.

The fire was extinguished without incident with fire ground operations being terminated at 1:05 p.m. The only damage was to the exterior dryer stack, however, after required repairs Binge staff felt it would be operational again.

The Red Oak Fire Department is very appreciative of the Bunge Corporation safety staff and maintenance personnel for their assistance with fire ground operations.

The Fire Department received mutual aid/assistance from the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Communications, and the Red Oak City Water Department.
