Mills County Master Gardeners hosting spring into garden conference
The Mills County Master Gardeners will be hosting the “Spring into Spring” Garden Conference, Saturday, March 26, at The Lakin, located on the Mills County Fairgrounds in Malvern.
This will be a full day of horticultural education for all gardeners. It is open to gardeners of all ages and abilities and will feature five speakers.
Speakers include:
• Tim Inman, who will be giving a presentation on grafting. After his presentation, Tim will be available all day doing “hands on grafting” with participants in attendance.
• Dr. Carol Fassbinder-Orth, Professor at Creighton University, where she studies bees and their diseases. Dr Fassbinder-Orth and her husband are the owners and operators of the Bountiful Blossoms Bee Company, of Glenwood. She will be talking about the health of bees.
• Lance Brisbois, from Golden Hills RC&D, of Oakland, will be doing a presentation on native plants and their importance in our gardens and landscapes.
• Dr. Donald Lewis, Professor and ISU Extension and Outreach Entomologist for the Department of Entomology at Iowa State University, will be talking about common garden insect pests and what we can do about them.
• Todd Peverill, from the Hillsdale Lily Garden of Glenwood, will be sharing how easy it is to grow and divide daylilies.
Various vendors will be present throughout the day. The conference begins with check-in at 8:15 a.m. The first speaker begins at 9 am, and the conference will conclude at 3 p.m. Refreshments and lunch are included.
Registration fee: $25 on or before March 18. Walk-in on the day of the conference $35.
