House fire in Villisca

Around 3:29 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, the Red Oak Fire Department was dispatched to 104 E. Elm Street in Villisca on a report of smoke coming from the structure.  Residents were evacuating.
At 3:32 p.m. firefighters reported light smoke coming from the basement area. The residence was checked. No fire had occurred. The residences utilities (furnace and hot water heater) were located within basement area, so service technicians were contacted to come check the resident’s utilities.
The resident was in contact with the landlord. Residents did not require any further assistance at the time of fire ground termination. No damage from smoke and no injuries to residents or firefighters.
