Honeyman is Veterans Day guest speaker

Red Oak native and 2009 Red Oak High School graduate, Bill Honeyman, has been selected by members of the Montgomery County Court of Honor to serve as the 2022 Veterans Day guest speaker.
Honeyman attended Iowa State University and enrolled in the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC). He graduated from ISU in the winter of 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural engineering with a minor in military studies.
Honeyman also commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy.
Upon commissioning, he reported onboard the Guided Missile Destroyer USS Howard (DDG83) and served two tours.
He served as a First Lieutenant on his first tour from 2014-16 and was deployed in the western Pacific area of Operation. He then stayed onboard to serve his second tour as Navigator, and sailed the ship on deployment to the Middle East region, returning in 2017. He resigned from active duty in November 2018 and continues to serve in the United States Naval Reserves, while also working on the family farm.
He returned in February of this year from his Navy Reserve deployment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as a Naval Liaison Officer.
Personal awards include the Joint Service Commendation medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Battle Effectiveness Award, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (2) and various other campaign and service medals.
The Montgomery County Court of Honor Veterans Day program will be held Friday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Red Oak High School Gymnasium.
