Emergency responders from multiple agencies tackled a call at NEW Cooperative on Jan. 24.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce said that at around 3 p.m, the Red Oak Fire Dept was dispatched to 203 W. Oak St.for a reported explosion with possible building collapse.
Emergency responders arrived on scene at 3:05 p.m, and reported light smoke coming from one building, and reported two buildings with damage, however, no building collapse had occurred. All employees were accounted for and no injuries reported.
Fire was located in the north pit building containing the grain belt system for the new grain storage building on the westside of their complex. The fire was quickly extinguished. Grain processing areas were checked and no other fire was located. Bruce said the damage report included two outbuildings, a grain leg system, and a grain belt. The total dollar amount of the damage is unknown at this time.
Fire/ground operations were terminated at 4:36 p.m. The Red Oak Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Stanton fire Department, Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, Red Oak Police Department, and Montgomery County Communications. Bruce said NEW Cooperative staff were also of tremendous assistance.
