Board of supervisors prepare for final IT director decision
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors is ready to make a final decision on a new IT director.
At the regular meeting Nov. 4, which was changed to Thursday due to the Nov. 2 election, the supervisors first discussed a statement of work and agreement with Iowa Counties Information Technology and the supervisors.
“They will send people to work with us and do an assessment of what is needed for upgrades to our IT hardware throughout the county. We received another proposal, but later we visited with this group of county IT directors. There are 11 of them, and two of them are local, one [each] in Adams and Page County. There will be groups of them that will come Nov. 16 and 17 and were recommended to us by other counties who were going through similar issues with IT,” Robinson explained.
The cost of the assessment is $3,000, and the supervisors approved the statement of work and agreement for the IT assessment.
The group will also meet with the supervisors and county department heads to review the details of their findings and applications for the IT director position. The group has already reviewed some of the resumes, and County Auditor Stephanie Burke said plans needed to be made to schedule interviews with the prospective candidates.
Robinson felt that they could narrow the list of applicants down to four or five total, and she knew that there were some scheduling conflicts, but she felt it needed to get done sooner rather than later.
“I feel it needs to get it done this month, and perhaps we could include one of the people from Iowa Counties Information Technology. At last discussion, we were trying to decide whether to do them following a regular meeting, or take a separate day,” said Robinson.
Supervisor Randy Cooper suggested they hold the interviews during the day on Nov. 22, the day before the regular Board of supervisors meeting that week. The supervisors were in agreement that the day worked best for everyone’s schedules, so they would all be able to attend.
Robinson advised Burke to confirm the availability of the members of Iowa Counties Information Technology for Nov. 22, and tentatively set that date for the IT interviews. All the interviews would be done in closed session.
Robinson also advised the supervisors that she had contacted another company for a December presentation to discuss potential engineering services for the proposed carbon pipeline.
The supervisors also scheduled the canvass for the city and school board elections on Nov. 9 for the first tier canvass, and Nov. 16 for the second tier canvas. Both will take place during the regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors.
