Austin receives Quilt of Valor

Emerson veteran Max E. Austin received a Quilt of Valor earlier in March for his service and dedication to his country.  Austin joined the United States Marine Corp in 1967 and served until he retired from the service in 1988 with the rank of Captain. Austin has been married to his wife Donna for 57 years and they have three children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Austin is a member of American Legion Post 575 in Emerson. Austin is pictured with wife Donna wrapped in his Quilt of Valor as a “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.” The quilt was made by Margarette Hughes and the Scrappy Quilters in Farragut.  They are honored to make QOV’s for Southwest Iowa. Bee Quilty owner Debbie Blay presented the quilt to Austin.
