Murder charges for McCunn

A Red Oak man, Toby McCunn, 34, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Joshua Jordan, 33, of Shenandoah.

According to Page County District Court documents, about 4:50 a.m. Monday, April 22, McCunn was inside a 901 Manti Road residence in Shenandoah looking for Jordan. While there with Kevin Weil, 32, and Brandy Baker (Aradanas) 30, Jordan returned to the residence and after walking inside, McCunn fired several shots with a handgun at Jordan, striking him in the chest resulting in a fatal wound.

McCunn then fled the scene and after a standoff with police, was arrested about 2 p.m. Monday at another Shenandoah home.

McCunn was first examined at the Shenandoah Medical Center for a leg injury before being transported to the Page County Jail in Clarinda. He made his initial court appearance April 24 in Page County and was appointed counsel at state expense. A pre-hearing was set for 9 a.m. May 3

Multiple agencies are involved in the investigation, which is still ongoing. No further details are available at this time.

Darrell Simmons, special agent in charge with the Division of Criminal Investigation, said it could take weeks or months to collect accurate information pertaining to the case.

McCunn is no stranger to law enforcement; he has a history of theft and drug possession charges.

Services for Jordan were held Friday, April 26, at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.
