Montgomery County Family YMCA announces spring sports activities


The Montgomery County Family YMCA will be once again sponsoring a Youth Track Club program for boys and girls in the grades 1st - 6th. The program has been designed for youth to have fun and introduce enjoyment in running and field events. The program will also promote teamwork in relays and build self-esteem.

            A parents meeting has been set for Monday, April 13 at 6 p.m. at the YMCA. Program coordinator will be Sueann French. A short practice will follow the parents' meeting.

            All practices will take place at either the high school football and track stadium or Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. Practices are to be held on Mondays and Thursdays. Practice times will be from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. for 1st - 3rd grades and 6:15 - 7:30 p.m. for 4th - 6th grades. The first full practice is set for Thursday, April 16.

            A local track meet in Red Oak is set for May 16 at 10 a.m. Participants will also have the option to attend other meets held at surrounding area communities.

 Adult Spring Tennis Leagues

            The Montgomery County Family YMCA will be a holding a Spring “Bonus” Session of adult tennis leagues. The five-week session will offer leagues for different levels of men’s and women’s singles play and men’s and women’s Doubles play.                       The Spring “Bonus” Session will also offer reduced league prices to players that have participated in one of the YMCA’s 2008 Fall or 2009 Winter League sessions. The Spring Leagues will run for the five weeks (5) of April 20 through May 22, 2009, with a Registration

            Deadline of Thursday, April 16, 2009.

Soccer Registration

            The Montgomery County Family YMCA has started accepting registrations for the Spring session of Preschool - Kindergarten Coed Soccer       

            Registration forms can be obtained by stopping at the YMCA located at 101 E. Cherry St. in Red Oak; email at mcymca@mcymca.com or by visiting the YMCA’s website at www.mcymca.com. The registration deadline is Tuesday, April 14, 2009.                    Registrations received after the deadline maybe charged a late fee.

Live Healthy Iowa

            The Annual “Live Healthy Iowa” Fun Walk will be held on Friday, April 17 at the Montgomery County Family YMCA.

            Participants will have the option to either go outside and walk or run a

predetermined two mile course in the neighborhood surrounding the YMCA or they can   stay inside and use the YMCA’s indoor track at the YMCA to complete the two miles.

            Registration forms will be available at the YMCA’s customer service desk that day only. There is no fee to participate in the walk.

            Participants will be able to complete the “Fun Walk” between the hours of 6 a.m. to - 7 p.m. on April 17.             Participants in the Montgomery County “Live Healthy Iowa” program will be eligible for a drawing for one $25 Red Oak Chamber Buck Certificate.

            All participants will be eligible for a drawing for three $25 Y-Buck Certificate.

            The drawing for the certificates will be held that evening at the completion of the walk.
