Middle School Cage project bid awarded to Precision Concrete

RED OAK — The Red Oak School Board took another step towards improving the basketball cage at Red Oak Middle School when they approved a contract bid at Wednesday night’s meeting.

The Board approved the bid of Precision Concrete Services, Inc., out of Atlantic for a total of $98,292.62.

The recommendation was made by Engineer and Project Coordinator Pete Crawford.

Precision Concrete Ser-vices is a subcontractor for the new county jail and the new building at Nishna Productions.

The Board also approved Phase 1 of the Middle School Cage Renovation Project.

A public hearing was open to the public for anyone with questions about the project. However, no one from the public had questions or comments.

Red Oak’s district considered bids locally from JFSCO engineering and regionally from Sticklers Inc., in Clarinda and Carley Construction in Treynor.

Phase 1 of the project will be completed by late fall, according to the School Board.

The Board approved revised contracts with the Kaleidoscope Program and West Center Community Action to provide early childhood services for the upcoming school year.

To open the meeting, the Board had a meet and greet with new employees in the district.

Director of Maintenance and Operations Pete Wemhoff met with the Board to update them on current and future projects. The two projects planned are renovating the causeway at the Middle School and re-roofing the athletic storage building at Legion Park.

The Board approved a contract with Red Oak Glass to renovate the causeway at the Middle School. No action was taken on the roof project.

A special meeting is planned for Aug. 22 at 5 p.m., but the next regular agenda meeting will be Aug. 29.
