Merlin Green, 72

Merlin L. Green, 72, Red Oak, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Hospice House in Omaha.

Merlin Lawrence Green, son of Everett and Clara (Nicolaus) Green was born Dec. 14, 1940, in Stuart, Neb. Merlin was raised in Naper, Neb. and graduated in 1959 from Naper High School.

On Sept. 17, 1961, Merlin married Ellen J. Grohs in Sioux City. Merlin and Ellen lived in many towns in the Midwest as he was a store manager for Scotts Stores. He later became a feed salesman covering northeast Nebraska. In 1990, Merlin and Ellen moved to Red Oak, where he was a salesman for Golden Sun Feed and AFLAC Insurance.

Merlin was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Shenandoah. He had also served for 12 years on the board for the Nebraska Evangelical Lutheran High School. Merlin enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, fishing and was an avid Nebraska football fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Merlin is survived by his wife, Ellen Green, of Red Oak; children, Greg (Donna) Green of Omaha, Jeff (Kristi) Green of Lincoln, Neb. and Vicki (Jeff) Schaaf of Broken Bow, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Scott (Becca) Green, Sarah (Nick) Dodenhof, Sam, Jacob and Jon Green, Mia and Jessica Schaaf; three great-grandchildren, Morgan and Sydney Green and William Dodenhof; brothers, Marlan (Joan) Green of Burke, S.D. and Dennis Green of Rapid City, S.D.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sioux City. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Sioux City. Rev. Tom Jeske will officiate. Prayer services will be Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home with visitation to follow with the family.

A memorial is being established in Merlin’s name.
