Mary L. Garey, 71

Mary L. Garey, 71, of Villisca, died Oct. 18, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Mary Louise (Hoffman) Garey was born Sept. 14, 1938, in Adams County, the daughter of Tom and Viola (Thompson) Hoffman. Mary grew up in the Carbon/Villisca area and graduated from Villisca Community High School in 1956. Following her high school graduation, she attended a business college in Omaha, Neb. She was later employed at Lisle Corporation, CDS and a waitress at several different local establishments.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Hoffman and three infant siblings.

Mary is survived by her mother, Viola Hoffman of Villisca; children, Carol Garey and Julie Uryasz of Scottsdale, Ariz., Joanna (Hal) Goudie of Shambaugh, and Arvid (Sue) Garey of Clarinda; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, sister Donna (Virgil) Wallis of Villisca.

Memorial Services were held Oct. 23 at Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca. Interment was at the Oakland-Quincy Cemetery in Quincy.

The family suggests that memorials in lieu of flowers go to the Mary Garey Memorial Fund.
