Lylah P. Rentz, 94

Lylah P. Rentz, 94, of Red Oak, formerly of Madison, S.D., died on March 26, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness.

Lylah P. Rentz was born May 31, 1914, in Grand Meadow Township of Cherokee County.

As a young girl she moved to rural Wentworth, S.D. where she graduated high school. She also graduated with a teaching degree from Eastern South Dakota State Normal School on May 29, 1934.

On Aug. 22, 1943, she was united in marriage to Edwin T. “Pete” Rentz at Wentworth, S.D. While Pete served in WWII, Lylah lived in Sisseton, S.D., working at the Pearson Rexall Drug Store. After the war, they moved to Madison, S.D. where Pete was a building contractor.

Pete preceded her in death on June 25, 1983. Lylah moved to Red Oak in 1997 and to Good Samaritan Care Center in 2004.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; four brothers; and one sister. Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Russell) Johnson; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on March 30 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor George Hooper officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Madison, S.D. at 1 p.m. April 3.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Care Center New Horizons.
