Luella Arlene (Neal) Kernen, 89, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
She was born in Villisca on April 17, 1919, to Albert and Effie (Sparger) Neal.
Luella left school after eighth-grade but later acquired her G.E.D.
She married Thoeron Kernen on Feb. 15, 1939, and to this union were born two children, Albert William and Kathryn Ann.
She worked in several Villisca businesses including Winter’s Clothng Store, Helen Loren Shop, Honeyman Drug Store, and from 1961 to 1992, Stoner Drug Store, at which time she retired.
She was a member of Advent Christian Church.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Dennis and James, sisters Betty Larson, Ruth Nelson, Mary Farrens and infant Francis.
She is survived by her son, Bill (Leona) Kernen of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Kathryn (Richard) Bross of Villisca; brother, Bob (Evelyn) Neal of Villisca; sister, Lois Bergren of Red Oak; sisters –in-law, Lorene Neal of Villisca and Donna Davidson of Waverly; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Wolfe Funeral Home of Villisca was in charge of arrangements.
