Lois Lakin, 93
Lois Katherine Lakin, 93, of Colorado Springs, formerly of Red Oak, passed away Jan. 23, 2012.
Lois was born to Charles E. and Hattie L. (Stafford) Jackson April 7, 1918, in Red Oak. She graduated from Red Oak High School and attended Chillicothe Business College in Kansas City.
Lois met the love of her life, Ryan F. Lakin, in church and they were married Nov. 9, 1940. In 1948, they moved to Colorado Springs, where she has resided ever since.
She worked for civil service at NORAD both at Ent Air Force Base and at the Cheyenne Mountain facility, where she retired.
Her husband, Ryan, passed away in 1984.
A few years later, she returned to Red Oak for her 50th class reunion where she met classmate Harold "Hal" Haldeman. After a long-distance courtship, they were married until his death in 2002.
Lois was a member of Bethany Baptist Church for over 63 years. She was a loving caregiver providing time, energy and assistance to both her husband, Ryan, and their son, Kenneth. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia Hakos; and brother, Howard Jackson.
Lois is survived by her children, Marilyn (John) Sacchetta, of Colorado Springs, Jeanne (Jim) Ferguson, of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Bella Vista, Ark., and Kenneth (Shari) Lakin, of Georgetown, Texas; five grandchildren, Randy (Barbara) Ricker, Kevin (Annie) Ricker, Tracy Townsend-Jandebeur, Chad (Kristy) Townsend and Tim Pautsch; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will take place at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Emerson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Family and friends are welcome to gather and then follow in procession to the cemetery for the graveside service. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
