Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

In recognition that many of your readers believe themselves to be conservatives or libertarians and/or register to vote as Republicans, I commend to them a piece from an on-line magazine called The Federalist, entitled “5 Reasons Every American Should Oppose Donald Trump,” by Paul David Miller. Mr. Miller teaches public policy at University of Texas-Austin.

Here are the points Mr. Miller raises, as he carefully lays out the case for voting against Trump: he admires tyrants from across the globe; encourages violence; advocates restrictions on speech, specifically expansion of libel laws; does not believe in equality under the law; and is an American fascist. No, not quite Hitler, not yet, but a fascist in every sense of the word. Hitler wasn’t full blown until he took power, remember.

No American who loves this country should support this man. He completely violates basic American principles. This is not a partisan or red-blue issue. It is, rather, a matter of the survival of the Republic itself – our ability to self-govern, our ability to exercise our civil liberties, our ability to freely express ourselves, and our ability to assimilate those from abroad who wish to participate in our economy and enjoy our freedoms.

Please, readers, you owe it to your nation to ponder this. Go to thefederalist.com/2016/02/29, read the article, then go out and vote in November against Trump. There are no excuses for staying home on election day.

In the meantime, if you are wavering, ask yourselves whether you truly want this con man in charge of your lives. Ask yourselves how you will sleep knowing that such a person has his finger on the nuclear weapons trigger.
