Julefest, Name of all Names

Join the Grand View University choir and band under the direction of Dr. Kathryn Pohlmann Duffy, professor of music and Richard Thimmesch, director of bands, as they present Julefest, Name of All Names, Grand View University’s holiday gift to the Des Moines area, at 7:30 p.m. on December 3, at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Avenue, Clive, Iowa 50325.

               We invite you to join us as we recount our Savior’s birth and celebrate the many names of Jesus. Reservations for Julefest may be made through Jane Jensen, Grand View music department’s secretary at (515) 263-2991 or e-mail her at jjensen@grandview.edu. Reservations are recommended and should be made by December 2. A free-will offering will be taken with all proceeds going to the music department at Grand View University. A dessert reception will follow.

               The Grand View choir and band are well-known for their musical excellence. The choir has toured around the country, and also gone to Canada, Germany and Denmark. The band performs for the World Food Prize ceremony each fall.

               This is one of the key events highlighting the Soli Deo Musica season. Other events this year include a performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors, an opera about the birth of the Christ child later in December; “Live With The Max Wellman Trio”, a concert of a mainstay performer on the local jazz scene, slated for March and a performance of the Des Moines Vocal Arts Ensemble, scheduled for May.

               To get to Faith Lutheran Church, take Interstate-235 in the Des Moines/West Des Moines area to the Valley West Drive exit. Go north on Valley West Drive to University Avenue and then turn west. Go west on University Avenue beyond the K-Mart discount store. Faith Lutheran Church is by the Clive water tower on the north side of University. Additional parking is available at the K-Mart adjacent to the church.
