Jerry Smith Ayres, 84

Geraldine “Jerry” Smith Ayres, 84, of Red Oak, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at the Hospice House in Omaha,.

Jerry Violet was born to Kenneth “Bill” and Marie (Volzke) Craige Nov. 20, 1927, in York, Neb. Jerry grew up in York, moving to Red Oak, when she was 13 years old. She attended high school in Red Oak.

Jerry married Earl “Smitty” Smith Nov. 16, 1946, in Hiawatha, Kan. They made their home in Red Oak.

Jerry worked in retail sales for several businesses including Arlene’s Glad Rags.

Smitty passed away in l978.

Jerry enjoyed decorating her home with all of her special collectables.

Jerry married LeRoy R. Ayres, Feb. 23, 1980, in Red Oak.

Jerry was so proud of her daughter, Polly, and loved and treasured everything about her granddaughter, Lindsey.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Earl “Smitty” Smith, on June 17, 1978, and LeRoy R. Ayres, on July 12, 2001.

Jerry is survived by her daughter, Polly (John) Huebert, of Omaha; granddaughter, Lindsey Huebert, of Omaha; nieces and nephews; along with other relatives and friends.

Graveside service will take place Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Visitation with the family will precede the service on Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Family and friends will leave the funeral home in procession for the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
