Jerald Roe, 69

Jerald O. Roe, 69, of Milford, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at the Spencer Hospital.

Jerald was born to Leonard and Violet (Opdahl) Roe May 2, 1942, in Watertown, S.D. Jerry graduated from Hayti High School in 1960, where he participated in football, basketball, baseball and track. He attended Huron College before graduating from Inhalation Therapy School in Watertown, in 1964.

After graduation, Jerry was drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country for two years, with 13 months in the infantry in Korea.

Jerry worked his entire life as a respiratory therapist in Watertown, as well as in Eugene, Ore., Creighton, Neb., and Onawa, Clarinda and Red Oak. He also worked in Worthington, Minn., before retiring in 2010.

After his retirement, he worked as a consultant for Lakes Oxygen in Spirit Lake.

Jerry was a member of the Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church. He enjoyed watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He was blessed to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was always pleased to share how this was reaffirmed at his first Via de Cristo experience in 2000.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Gordon.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Rebecca Roe, of Milford; daughter, Erin (Ryan Davelaar) Roe, of Arnolds Park; sister, Becky (Loren) Tupper, of Bartlesville, Okla.; brother, Bob (Charlotte) Roe, of Brookings, S.D.; and a sister-in-law, Karen Roe, of Watertown.

A memorial service took place Monday, Jan. 16, at Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church in Milford. Visitation was Sunday, from 5-7 p.m., at the Schuchert Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Via de Cristo or the music ministries of Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church.

The Schuchert Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
