Jean Kerr, 90

Jean Templeton Kerr, 90, of Atlantic, formerly of Elliott, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.  

Shirley “Jean” Templeton Kerr was born to Emil and Otelia (Swanson) Peterson Feb. 12, 1921, in Red Oak. She was raised in the Stennett area, where she also attended school.  

Jean married William Templeton Dec. 26, 1936, in Red Oak. To this union four children were born. They lived near Stennett and Red Oak before moving to the Elliott area in 1948.  

William preceded Jean in death on Thanksgiving Day, 1965.  

Jean worked at JC Penney Company and later Holiday Inn before her marriage to Harlan Bierbaum on July 9, 1978. Harlan preceded her in death March 21, 1985.  

On Jan. 31, 1987, Jean married Don Kerr and they made their home in Manilla.  
Jean enjoyed her many friends and family, playing cards, fixing great food and going to dances.  

She was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church, the ONO Club, the Research Club and enjoyed other neighborhood activities. She spent many winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., being a “snowbird."

Jean moved to the Griswold Assisted Living Unit in August of 2005, and in 2008, moved to the Griswold Care Center. The Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center has been her home since June of 2010.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, William and Harlan; children, Bill Templeton, Tom Templeton and Shirley Berry; son-in-law, Dennis Berry; sisters, Irene Carlson, Helen Hoffman and Phyllis Franklin; and brothers, Vernon, Donald, Maurice and Kenneth Peterson.  

Survivors include her husband, Don Kerr, of Manilla; daughter, Diane (Richard) Carspecken, of Atlantic; grandchildren, Heather Baker, Holly Hinrichs, Dave Berry, Sue Berry, Jebb Templeton, Travis Templeton, Melissa Heuck, Walker Templeton, Bill Templeton, Tom Paul Templeton and Ann Jones; many great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (Jerry) Limke, of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Mary Helen Peterson, of Elliott; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services took place Friday, Jan. 27, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Terry McClain officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family was Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
