James W. Vonnahme, 82

James William Vonnahme, 82, of Red Oak, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.

James was born to Bernard “Ben” and Mary (Geier) Vonnahme April 2, 1929, in Carroll, Iowa.

Jim served with the United States Army in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Lorraine Post #67, Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Court of Honor and Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association.

Jim was owner of Midwest Furniture for 53 years and a long time member of the Red Oak Chamber of Commerce.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Larry, Wayne and Vernon; and brother-in-law, A.J. Walker.

Surviviors include his wife, Lucille (Steinhauser) Vonnahme, and son, Steve, of Red Oak; daughters, Kristina (Jerome) Gradoville of Omaha, Kathryn (Stephen) Dostal of Papillion, Neb., Jayne (Thomas) Schram of Gretna, Neb., Judith (Michael) Sexton of LaVista, Neb., Rebecca (Brian) Barkley of Peoria, Ill., and Debra (Dan) Tobin of Seattle, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Morgan and Nathan Gradoville of Omaha, Luke Dostal of Papillion, Jennifer and Matthew Barkley of Peoria, Patrick Barkley of St. Louis, Rachel and  Samantha Gradoville of New York, N.Y., Sarah Barkley of Las Vegas, Nev., and Steven, Erin and Shannon Tobin of Seattle; sister, Betty Walker of Carroll, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Sally Vonnahme of Carroll, Mary Vonnahme of Ankeny, Iowa, Mary Martin of Tucson, Ariz., and Agnes Miller of Round Top, Texas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Oak with Father Ken Gross officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Mount Carmel, Iowa on a later date.
