Ivan “Gerald” Owens, 89

Ivan “Gerald” Owens, 89, of Red Oak, died Oct. 21, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society Care Center.

Ivan “Gerald” Owens was born March 15, 1920, in Oakland, the son of William and Mae (Fehr) Owens. After attending school, Gerald started farming until serving in the Army during WWII. He married Lorene Longcor on Jan. 27, 1946, in Oakland. Over the years they farmed near Wheeler Grove and Oakland before coming to Red Oak where they farmed for three years. He was a member of the Hawthorne United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Lorene; infant brother: James; brother: Kenneth; sisters: Phyllis Batten; Colleen DeBolt; and Ruth Brashier.

Survivors include his children: William “Bill” (Ruth) Owens of Stanton, and Sharlee Owens of Red Oak; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; expecting a great-great-grandchild soon.

Funeral services were held Oct. 26 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jan Phillips officiating. Burial took place at the Oaklawn Cemetery at Oakland.

Memorials are suggested to the Hawthorne United Methodist Church.
