Irene D. (Berringer) Smith, 92, of Coin, died Nov. 11, 2009, at her home near Coin.

Irene Daisy Berringer was born March 4, 1917, near Clarinda, the daughter of Clyola Clyde and Minnie Maude “Daisy” (Larson) Berringer and was the fourth child of a family of six children. She married Harrison “Harry” Geroidson Smith on Sept. 15, 1934, in Shenandoah. This union was blessed with five children: James I., Marvin C., Galen C., Ilene J., and Arlene J.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Alfred, Myrl, and Verlin; sisters: May and Gladys; husband: Harry Smith; and two sons: James and Marvin.

Survivors include her children: Galen Smith of Bentonville, Ark.; Ilene Miller of Red Oak; and Arlene (Gary) La Follette of Blue Grass; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 14 at the Grace Baptist Church in Red Oak, with Pastor Gary Walters officiating. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Grace Baptist Church.
