Titans too much for Tigers
The Council Bluffs Lewis Central boys soccer team topped Red Oak 13-0 in Hawkeye 10 Conference soccer Thursday at Russ Benda Field in Red Oak.
“We knew their offense and passing was going to be exceptional, and knowing that information we dropped into a heavier defensive formation to help support the back line,” said Dion Coffey, who was on the sidelines for the Tigers in place of head coach Mark Kells, who missed the game for undisclosed reasons.
“With some bad bounces and wet field conditions, we simply couldn’t get the job done. We had some moments of brightness with excellent passes up field and being aggressive the entire game. The Titans played a great game and I commend our team for trying their best until the very end.”
Quill Orth had three goals and Emmett Lefeber, Adriene Robles and Jude Mortensen had two goals each and Cooper Williams, Broxton Hill, Javier Aguilar, Diego Martinez-Rangel each added goals for the Titans.
Treynor 10,
Red Oak 0
On Tuesday, April 29, the Tigers traveled to Treynor to take on the Cardinals.
Red Oak coach Mark Kells felt his team got off to a strong start but had an early defensive breakdown in the 36th minute that allowed Treynor to find the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
That lead swelled to 8-0 at the half.
“After halftime we just couldn’t overcome the defensive breakdowns from the first half against a disciplined and very fast Treynor Cardinal team,” Kells said.
The Cardinals found the back of the net at the 39th and 33rd minute of the second half to end the game 10-0.
“We had a very tough week last week and I felt we were ready for this game today but just couldn’t manage any offense,” Kells said. “The guys never gave up and played hard every minute tonight.”
Wyatt Roberts had 11 saves in goal for Red Oak.
