Timberwolves top field at ‘Last Chance’ Relays

The Southwest Valley boys and girls track team wrapped up its regular season at the Fremont-Mills Last Chance Relays Monday evening in Tabor. 
In their last tune-up before tomorrow’s State Qualifying Meet on Thursday in Tabor, the Timberwolves boys brought home their fourth straight relays championship with 146 points behind four individual champions and three relay champions.  The host Knights were the runners-up with 133 points.
The Southwest Valley girls had one event champion and set a new school record relay to finish the meet fourth with 55 points. Fremont-Mills grabbed the girls team crown with seven gold medals and 161 team points.
Champions on the night for Southwest Valley included Walker Bissell in the high jump, Brody Crozier in the long jump, Caleb Owen in the shot put, Wyatt Mendenhall in the 400-meter hurdles and Saige Jones in the 800-meters. 
The Timberwolves also notched relay golds in the sprint medley with Wyatt Shires, Gavin Wetzel, Crozier and Mendenhall, 4x800 with Gunnar Lenz, Anis Ahkdar, Ben Waddell, and Hoyt Mendenhall and the shuttle hurdle with Wetzel, Bissell, Shires, and Mendenhall in 1:04.85
The Timberwolves boys added second place finishes from Crozier in the 100 and 200, Mendenhall in the 110-meter hurdles, Owen in the discus and the distance medley relay.
The girls sprint medley team of Hailey Randall, Mailee Templeton, Ray Helvie, and Anistyn Poston ran a 2:05.51 for second while the 4x400 relay of Elin Hogan, Randall, Taylor Stargell and Erica Mendenhall were second.
Southwest Valley’s girls shuttle hurdle finished fourth but broke their own school record with a new time of 1:14.83 with Alyssa Pearson, Randall, Jones, and Templeton.
The East Mills boys were fourth in Tabor with 55 points and the girls finished sixth with 47 points.
Landon Gibbs (400-meters), Gabe Blanton (3,200) and the 4x200-meter relay team of Jhalil Reed, Khayden Poorker, Curtis Jackson and Jiri Brodigan all grabbed second place medals to lead the Wolverine boys.
The East Mills girls were led by Ellie Hagen’s top finish in the 100-meters. Sophie Housh added a second place medal in the 800-meters.
The Stanton girls tallied 59 points for third place. Piper French topped the Viqueens with a gold in the 200-meters. The Viking boys were led to a seventh place finish by Jayden Snow’s second place showing in the 400-meter hurdles.
Griswold’s girls were led by first place showings from Carsyn Adams in the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles and Ella Gade’s discus gold.
