Tigers top field at Shenandoah invite

The Red Oak boys won top honors at the Shenandoah Cross Country Invitational last Tuesday evening at Shenandoah High School.
Emmanuel Grass, Hayden Heitbrink and Osiel Pedersen each placed in the top 10 to lead the Tigers charge. Red Oak topped the field with a team score of 47, four points better than runner up Tri-Center.
Clarinda’s Kyle Wagoner won top individual honors with a time of 16:50.61.
Grass led Red Oak with a third-place finish time of 17:36.8. Heitbrink was right behind Grass in fourth and Pedersen was seventh.
“Great effort by all runners tonight,” said Red Oak coach Sueann French. “It was a bit hotter than last Saturday, and they felt it. The boys team worked hard to win this meet and Coach (Weston) Rolenc, and I are really proud of these boys. We were so focused on St Albert, but Tri Center was on our tail. We just need to keep narrowing that spread between the first through fifth guy.”
Bryce Williams placed 15th and Pace Chaillie was 18th to complete the Tigers scoring.
The Stanton girls, who had three runners and did not qualify in the team standings, were led by Lauren Roberts’ time of 27:31.53 and a 47th place finish. Bree Mitchell added 69th place finish and Riley Burke was 74th.
The Vikings boys were led to a 10th place team finish by Jayden Snow’s 28th place showing. James McDonald was 61st, Zooey Allen was 69th, Eric Kutzli was 77th and Grant Spencer 82nd.
“This was our first meet of the year,” said Stanton coach Lacey Stephens.  “We have been working hard and look forward to reaching our personal and team goals this year.”
Walter Seipold placed with a 42nd place show to lead the East Mills boys to an 11th place finish in the team standings.
The Red Oak girls ran with just four runners so did not compile a team score.
Marlee Perrien led the way with a 29th place finish time of 25:16.48. Maddi Lopez was 45th, Gillian Heim was 63rd and Cate Horn was unable to finish.
Harlan won the girls team title with a score of 32.
Council Bluffs St. Albert’s Lili Denton ran a 19:03.19 to win the individual crown.
