Tigers split pair at own tournament
The Red Oak softball team went 1-1 at its own Red Oak Softball Invitational Saturday.
The Tigers (3-21 overall, 0-15 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) picked up a 13-8 win over Essex and dropped a 9-5 decision to Stanton in their capper.
Against Essex, Mhylee Joint scattered five hits and struck out four in the win.
Alexis Joint and Tori Wendt combined to drive in five runs in the game one win. Paityn Vanatta tripled and drove in four runs for Essex.
In the capper, Stanton’s Quinn McDonald had three hits, and Bree Mitchell had two hits and drove in four runs.
Kiela Franzen notched the win allowing five hits and five earned runs with three strikeouts.
Mhylee Joint took the loss for the Tigers. Joint gave up eight hits and five earned runs.
Alexis Joint and Myhlee Joint both singled and drove in runs.
Trojans sweep Red Oak
Atlantic knocked off Red Oak 12-0 and 21-1 in a Hawkeye 10 Conference double-header in Atlantic Thursday.
Trojan pitchers Peyton McLaren and Brynn Lamp were dominant in the circle in both games. McLaren struck out six and did not allow a hit in the game one win, and Lamp fanned nine, walked one and did not allow a hit in game two.
Lila Wiederstein and McKenna Sonntag each had three hits and drove in three runs combined in the two games.

Red Oak 0
Glenwood’s Alyssa Liddick allowed just six hits in a 4-0 Hawkeye 10 Conference softball victory over Red Oak last Wednesday.
Liddick struck out three and did not walk a batter in the win. The junior added two hits at the plate.
Audrey Albers and Payton Steward each drove in runs for the Rams.
Myhlee Joint took the loss in the circle for Red Oak after scattering nine hits and four earned runs. Joint also notched three hits at the plate.
Tigers drop pair to Lewis Central
Council Bluffs Lewis Central notched a pair of wins over Red Oak 20-1 and 13-0 in a Hawkeye 10 Conference softball double-header last Monday.
Alyssa Griffin went 3-for-5, belted two home runs and drove in three runs for the Titans.
Camryn King added four hits and drove four runs and scored four runs.
Emerson Coziahr picked up the game one win after allowing two hits and no earned runs while fanning five. Cami Damgaard tossed the four-inning shutout in game two, striking out four and allowing just one hit.
Haylee Joint singled and scored the Tigers’ lone run while Myhlee Joint took the loss in the circle, surrendering 12 hits and 14 earned runs.
Josie Sampson had a hit in game two.
Myhlee Joint allowed three hits and 10 earned runs to take the loss in game two.
BASEBALL
Rams nip Tigers 11-10 in H-10 baseball
Red Oak built a 5-1 lead after two innings but couldn’t hold on as Glenwood rallied with two runs in each of the third and four innings and four more in the fifth for an 11-10 win in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball Friday.
The Rams (9-15 overall, 7-9 in the conference) smacked nine hits off a trio of Tiger pitchers. Ryan Turner smacked a home run and drove in three runs among his three hits and Grahm Newberry had three hits and drove in two runs.
Benn Christiansen scattered six hits and three earned runs in five innings of work to earn the win.
Carson Roeder started on the mound for the Tigers and allowed five earned runs, walked four, and struck out three in three innings of work. Brody Bond came on to pitch one and two-thirds in relief to take the loss. Bond allowed two hits, five earned runs and struck out two.
Bond did help his own case at the plate with three singles and three runs scored. Cale Hall and Masen Fisher had two hits each, and Adam Baier singled and drove in three runs.
“Our offensive approach was great tonight as we outhit Glenwood 11-8,” said Red Oak Coach Mark Erickson. “We needed another hit or two with runners in scoring position. We walked eight and hit one. It’s hard to win games giving up nine free bases. We have confidence that the guys who pitched tonight will have better outings next week.”
With the loss, the Tigers drop to 10-13 overall and 5-12 in the conference.

Atlantic 2 - 9 innings
Red Oak plated three runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull out a 4-2 victory over Atlantic in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball Thursday in Atlantic.
Adam Baier started on the mound and allowed zero earned runs on seven hits in four and two-thirds innings before giving way to Brett Erickson. Erickson earned the victory, allowing one earned run on six hits while walking one and striking out three.
“Adam and Brett admitted that they weren’t as sharp as they could have been, but they both battled through tough situations,” said Red Oak coach Mark Erickson. “We put together a nice offensive inning in the ninth in order to come away with the win.”
Baier singled and scored two runs and Reese Montgomery and Brody Bond both singled and drove in runs. Blake Sloan added a single and Cale Hall doubled.
Keston Schmitt surrendered one hit, walked one and allowed three runs in the ninth to take the loss.
Kale Jensen had three hits and Jack Muller, Grant Petty and Sawyer Tarrell had two hits each.
Tigers split pair
The Red Oak baseball team split a Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball double-header with Denison last Wednesday.
The Tigers won game one, which was suspended by rain back on June 16, 5-4 and dropped the nightcap 6-0.
Brody Bond earned the game one victory on the mound, pitching six innings over the course of both days. Bond threw four and two-thirds innings on the 16th and threw an additional one and one-third inning today, (June 25) allowing two earned runs on 10 hits. Brett Erickson got the save by pitching the seventh inning.
“It was nice to get back in the win column and finish this one off today,” said Red Oak coach Mark Erickson. “We pitched out of a couple tough situations to save the victory.”
Carson Roeder had three singles and scored a run and Cale Hall singled twice, scored a run, and drove in a run.
Cody Schulte tossed a six-hit shutout for Denison in the game two victory. Schulte walked three and struck out three.
Reese Montgomery threw a complete game for the Tigers, allowing six earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
“Reese threw well enough to win today,” Coach Erickson said. “He did a nice job of changing speeds the entire game. We couldn’t get our offense going enough to score on a very tough pitching matchup with Denison’s Cody Schulte.”
Montgomery, Erickson, Roeder, Bond, Masen Fisher and Blake Sloan all singled for Red Oak.
Red Oak drops two at home
Red Oak dropped a pair of games at home to Council Bluffs Lewis Central in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball last Monday.
The Titans collected a combined 22 hits in the 13-2 game one win and the 10-3 winner in the nightcap.
In the opener, Osiel Pederson started on the mound for the Tigers. The sophomore allowed seven earned runs on eleven hits while walking one and striking out four in 5 1/3 innings. Pace Chaillie came on to pitch p an inning in relief before giving way to Jackson Perdue who pitched the final two-thirds of an inning.
“We have an extremely busy week, so we needed the three guys on the mound for us to pitch even though they didn’t have much varsity experience to this point,” said Red Oak coach Mark Erickson. “I was proud of all three of them. Osiel pitched deep into the game and showed us he deserves more varsity time on the mound. Pace and Jackson did a nice job of pitching with good pace. They worked hard to throw strikes against a very good class 4A team.”
Carson Roeder singled twice and scored two runs and Peterson singled twice in game one. Brett Erickson added a tripled.
Charles Schaben picked up the game one win, scattering five hits and striking out seven in five innings of work.
The Titans’ Brody Applegate had three hits and drove in two runs and Gavin Harrington doubled, homered and drove in four runs.
In the nightcap, Lewis Central’s Ayden Buckles scattered six hits, three runs and struck out four in five innings of work.
Landon Gigstad started and pitched three innings for the Tigers. The senior righthander allowed three earned runs on four hits. Seth Lydon came on to pitch one third of an inning in relief, allowing three earned runs on one hit. Blake Sloan pitched the final three and two thirds innings. He allowed three earned runs, three hits, walked four and struck out two.
“We asked three more players with little varsity experience this year on the mound to go out and compete against a good 4A team in Lewis Central,” Erickson said. “All three gave us really good time on the mound. Our offense is starting to come around a bit. We’re hoping to see some breakout games sometime this week.”
