Tigers runners-up at Hawkeye 10 cross country meet

The Red Oak boys cross cuntry team had two runners place among the top 10 to help the Tigers to a runner up finish at the Hawkeye 10 Conference Cross Country Meet at the Carroll Municipal Golf Course in Carroll Thursday.
Behind Kevin Coots’ top individual time of 16:04, the Council Bluffs Lewis Central boys won the team with a score of 28. The Tigers’ eventwere second with 95 points.
“Wow, that’s all I can say,” said Red Oak coach Sueann French of her boys team’s performance at the conference meet. “The entire team ran great today. Second place in the Hawkeye 10 for the boys was just what we needed going into state qualifying.
“We knew needed to beat Carroll Kuemper to get back the confidence we had at the beginning of the season. So many PRs today. Coach (Weston) Rolenc and I are so proud of our team.”
Emmanuel Grass and Hayden Heitbrink led the Tigers with top finishes. Grass was seventh with a time of 16:53.58 while Heitbrink finished ninth in 17:30.19.
Osiel Pedersen placed 18th, Bryce Williams was 24th and Pace Chaillie 37th to complete the Tigers’ scoring.
The Glenwood girls edged Harlan 57 to 58 in the scoring to secure the girls conference title.
Council Bluffs St. Albert’s Lili Denton won the girls crown with a time of 18:06.51. Harlan’s Lindsey Sonderman was the runner up with an 18:17.91 followed by Berglund’s 18:42.05.
Marlee Perrien led the Red Oak girls with a 43rd place finish.
