Tigers punch ticket to state golf


Shenandoah won the regional title and Red Oak finished as the runners-up at the Class 2A, Region 1 meet at Mapleton’s Willow Vale Golf Club last Wednesday.
With their top two finishes, both teams punched tickets to the Class 2A Iowa State Girls Golf Tournament May 29-30 at Cedar Points Golf Course in Boone.
The Fillies carded a team score of 381, four strokes better than the Tigers.
The state bid is Red Oak’s first as a team since 2007.
The Tigers’ Brynn Knaus won the regional title with a round of 83, a single stroke better than Shenandoah’s Sarah Pickens.
Emily Sebeneicher and Addey Lydon both shot 96s to placed ninth and 10th, respectively. Riley Burke added a 110 to complete the Tigers’ scoring.
BOYS GOLF
Tigers’ Crouse 15th at district golf
Red Oak’s Weston Crouse carded a score of 78 to place 15th at the Class 3A District Golf Meet at the Red Oak Country Club last Monday.
Gilbert’s Ryan Lynch shot a blistering 6-under-par 66 to top the field and punch his ticket to the state golf meet. The Gilbert boys carded a team score of 285 to lead the team state qualifiers. Ballard shot a 302 and Atlantic a 308 to complete the team state qualifiers.
The top three team’s players and the next two individual scores qualify for state at districts.
Nevada’s Parker Rodgers carded a 71 for runner-up honors.
Glenwood’s Evan Stanislav shot a 73 to placed sixth overall and lead all Hawkeye 10 Conference individual scores.
The Class 3A Boys Iowa State Golf Tournament began yesterday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. Look for results from state in the next edition of The Red Oak Express.
