Tigers fall in extra-inning on road

Judah Hammond smacked a bases loaded single to drive in the game-winning run for West Central Valley in an 8-7 win over Red Oak in nonconference baseball in Stuart Friday.
The Tigers (1-2) trailed 7-2 after five innings before rallying for three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to force the extra frame.
 “I was proud of how the guys played tonight, always striving to play the game the right way,” said Red Oak coach Tristin Johnson.
Carson Roeder started on the mound for Red Oak and settled down after a rough first inning where he surrendered three runs. He left after four innings having allowed three hits and four earned runs while striking out six. Pace Chaillie came in and finished the game strong giving up three hits and three earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Jarel Madison was credited with the win for the Wildcats after tossing final two innings and allowing one hit zero earned runs.
Kaleb Sebeniecher, Masen Fisher, Dalton Ferree and Roeder had one hit each for Red Oak.
Colton Lindsay was 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run for West Central Valley.

Griswold 9,

Griswold used a five-run fifth inning to rally in a 9-8 win over Red Oak in nonconference baseball Thursday at Red Oak’s Legion Field.
The Tigers built a 6-2 lead after three innings before the Tigers struck for two runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth.
“Tonight was a good learning experience for our young guys,” said Red Oak coach Tristin Johnson. “We had three normal starters gone at state track, so we had some step up and play well. We put the ball in play for the most part. On the mound when we threw strikes good things happened, just had too many walks.”
Masen Fisher started on the hill for the Tigers and allowed three hits and one earned run in three innings. Seth Lydon and Dalton Ferree came on to pitch the final four innings, allowing eight hits and six earned runs. For the game, the Tigers’ pitchers walked 11.
Red Oak had 10 hits in the game with Masen Fisher and Carson Roeder notching two hits each. Roeder drove in two runs.
Kolbe Klindt picked up the win for Griswold. The senior tossed five innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while fanning three.
Brayden Lockwood, Calden Turner and Klindt had two hits each for the Tigers.

Missouri Valley 0
Reese Montgomery tossed a three-hit, complete-game shutout for Red Oak in a 3-0 win over Missouri Valley in the non-conference baseball opener for both teams last Tuesday in Red Oak.
Montgomery struck out six and not not walk a batter in the win.
Cale Hall, Carson Roeder, Dalton Ferree and Hudson Fisher each notched hits for the Tigers. Roeder and Hall each drove in runs.
Red Oak notched five stolen bases and did not commit an error in the victory.

RED OAK SOFTBALL

Essex 20,
Red Oak 10
Red Oak led by as many as five runs but couldn’t hold off Essex in 20-10 loss in the softball opener for both teams last Tuesday.
Leading 7-2 after two innings, the Trojanettes exploded for 11 runs to blow the game open.
Ella Sandahl picked up the victory over the Tigers tossing five innings and allowing 11 hits, six earned runs and striking out nine.
Lily Cooper, making her first varsity start, was credited with the loss for Red Oak. The eighth grader threw 2 1/3 innings and allowed 2 hits, 13 walks and 16 earned runs.
Kylie Valdez had two hits and drive in two runs for Essex.
Lucy DeMasi had three hits and drove in two runs and Kaylee Erickson and Josie Sampson notched two hits each for Red Oak.
