Tigers drop three matches in girls tennis

The results didn’t go Red Oak’s way in week three of Hawkeye 10 Conference girls tennis but the Tigers fought hard across the lineup, according to coach Luis MacDonald.
“While the final team scores didn’t swing Red Oak’s way, the Tigers continue to fight hard in every match and show clear improvement across the lineup,” said Red Oak coach Luis MacDonald.
On Monday, Red Oak traveled to Harlan, where Mariella Hernandez continued her standout play, winning her singles match 8–4. Caitlin Britten also earned a hard-fought 8–6 victory at the No. 5 singles spot. The doubles team of Hernandez and Torres nearly pulled out a win in before falling by a tiebreaker set. Harlan took the meet 7–2.
Against Creston last Tuesday, Ana Torres picked up a strong singles win at the No. 6 spot, and the doubles team of Mariella Hernandez and Sianna Klepinger pushed their match deep before falling 6-8. Creston came away with the overall team victory, 8–1.
Facing Glenwood Thursday, Red Oak’s Hernandez won her singles match 8–4, and she teamed up with Klepinger for an 8-4 doubles victory. Glenwood went on to win the match 7–2.
