Tigers claim two wins to start season

The Red Oak Tiger baseball team begins the season 6-1 after defeating Creston on Thursday, May 29 and Nodaway Valley on Friday, May 30.
The Tigers thrilled the home crowd with a 3-2 win over H-10 for Creston.
Adam Baier started on the mound and threw six shutout innings, allowing two hits, four walks and striking out three. Brody Bond earned the one-inning save, allowing two hits and two earned runs while striking out two, including the game ending strikeout.
“Adam pitched the best game of his career,” Tigers head coach Mark Erickson said. “He threw with confidence and worked out of tough situations multiple times. Our defense played really well behind him. It was a definition of a team win.”
Reese Montgomery led the bats with a two-RBI double. Brett Erickson singled and scored two runs; Baier singled and scored one run; Masen Fisher had an RBI single; and Carson Roeder singled.

The Tigers traveled to Nodaway Valley the following night and won on the road 11-1 in six innings.
Roeder threw all six innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs. He walked two and struck out nine.
“Carson did a nice job on the mound for his first time out,” Coach Erickson said. “We came out fairly focused, but lost that focus a bit mid-game. We have continued to play hard through some time situations so far this season.“
Roeder tripled, had two doubles, and scored three runs; Montgomery hit two singles, scored a run, and had two RBI; Cale Hall singled, scored a run, and had two RBI; Jackson Perdue had two singles and an RBI; Blake Sloan singled, scored a run, and had two RBI; B. Erickson and Bond scored two runs each; and Fisher scored one run.
The Tigers travel to Clarinda on Thursday, June 5, to take on the Cardinals (0-2).
